World Wide Safety Fun in the Sun

Enjoy your time in the sun ...safely!

While the sun continues to shine brighter, be sure to implement these safety tips to help you and your family enjoy fun in the sun. Whether you are going to water parks every weekend or going to Lake Las Vegas for some awesome water sports, be sure to apply these safety tips to ensure your fun isn’t interrupted with misfortunate events.

Stay hydrated at all times

Safety Tips for Fun in the Sun

Hydration is key, no matter where you are. When you travel to desert areas like Las Vegas, be cautious about your surroundings and hydrate at all times! Now, don’t completely neglect the smoothies and martinis with your girlfriends; at the same token, don’t forget the most powerful drink around: water. Whether the sun is beaming or hiding, understand that your body will need more water than before. Fuel your body appropriately to avoid passing out or dying on the side!

Apply sunscreen again and again and again

Understand that SPF is your friend, not your foe! Choose a sunscreen with an SPF level of 30 or higher. Focus on sunscreens that provide broad-spectrum protection. While the majority of sunscreens provide protection against UVB rays, broad-spectrum sunscreens also provide UVA rays. UVB rays cause sunburn, but UVA rays contribute to skin cancer and premature aging. Protect your skin with the right amount of SPF in your sunscreen.

Limit your fun in the sun

The sun’s rays are at their strongest between 10 A.M. and 4 P.M. Try to limit your exposure during this time to save your skin. Map out your activities during the early mornings or later in the evenings. Utilize other resources to create more shade for your outdoor festivities. When you go to the beach or water park, bring an umbrella and stay in the shade as much as you can. If you’re tossing the pig skin around at the park for a couple of hours, be sure to take some breaks under the shade.

Avoid indoor tanning at all costs

Summer is right around the corner, so don’t rush! Tanning beds are not the answer to better skin or more vitamin D. Embrace the sun’s rays with protective wear and sunscreen, so you can maintain the integrity of your skin with little to no side effects. Do not fall victim to myths about tanning beds and their safety. There is nothing safe about soaking in UV radiation.

Allow sunglasses to become your most important accessory

Don’t be fooled by the name brands and fancy gadgets attached to sunglasses nowadays! Invest in a pair (or two) of sunglasses that actually block 99 to 100% of UVB and UVA rays. Match your broad-spectrum protection sunscreen to your choice of sunglasses. This little apparatus will shield your eyes from UV rays, helping you avoid from problems with your eyes including cataracts.
